Police raid RNC protest site in St. Paul
The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office says they made no arrests in connection with a raid of an organizing site for activists and protesters gathered for the Republican National Convention.
An attorney for protesters says sheriff’s deputies and police officers handcuffed at least 50 people and made them lie on the ground for an extended period. The raid happened Friday night around 9 p.m. at the former Smith Theater on St. Paul’s west side.
Jordan Kushner, who is head of the mass defense committee of the National Lawyers Guild’s Minnesota chapter, says officers seized computers and other electronic equipment as well as literature that protesters planned to hand out and materials for making signs and banners.
A Ramsey County Sheriff’s spokeswoman says no arrests were made but wouldn’t immediately talk about the motive for the raid. She says more information would be released later Saturday morning.
